Scouting Activities for Boys and Girls

Communicate via Amateur Radio at the W1AW/6 station.

For Boy Scouts: To use this visit to complete Radio merit badge requirement 7, obtain the approval of your Merit Badge Councelor in advance.

Build a Kit at the yourh kit building area in middle of Exhibit Hall. Facilitated by Patrick Bunsold WA6MHZ. (Additional fees to purchase kits.)

Classes and Projects

Learn to Solder (1h) (age 10 and above) at Kit Building Booth. (Throughout day during Exhibit hours)

This class is for all youth. For Boy Scouts this class will cover the material and tasks needed to complete Electronics requirement 3a and 3b (BSA Merit Badge Series Electronics p. 42ff).

Show the right way to solder and desolder.
Show how to avoid heat damage to electronic components.

BSA Bear Cub Scout Projects and Activities

Kit Building Booth in middle of Exhibit Hall (Facilitated by Patrick Bunsold WA6MHZ): Arrow Point Trail Elective 3 Radio (Handbook p. 190ff) and Elective 4 Electricity (Handbook p. 192ff). (Additional fees to purchase kits. Handbook is available from your local Boy Scouts of America Scout Store.)

Radio:

Build a crystal or diode radio. ... It is all right to use a kit.
Make and operate a battery powered radio, following the directions with the kit.

Electricity:

Wire a buzzer or doorbell.
Make a electric buzzer game. (materials not available at Pacificon)
Make a simple bar or horseshoe magnet.
Use a simple electric motor.
Make a crane with an electromagnetic lift.
