World Wide Scout Jamboree-On-The-Air and
Jamboree-On-The-Internet Take Place at Pacificon 2008

 
Scouts world wide use Ham Radio
to speak to each other

The world wide Scout Jamboree-On-The-Air (JOTA) and Jamboree-On-The-Internet (JOTI) are organized to coincide with the third full weekend of October each year. JOTA and JOTI are international meetings of scouts from around the world. Scouting experiences are exchanged and ideas are shared over long distance ham radio frequencies, and by using the internet. Ham radio stations are operated by licensed amateur radio operators.

With the help of scout guides, scouts will be able to participate in these Jamborees at this year's Pacificon, through both ham radio and internet special events stations that are being set up by the Mt. Diablo Silverado Council of the Boy Scouts of Amerca. The call sign for the ham radio station is K6BSA. This 51st JOTA and the JOTI will take place October 18th & 19th, 2008, in the Pleasanton Room at Pacificon, in the Marriott Hotel in San Ramon. The special events stations will be open from 9 am to 5 pm on Saturday, and from 9 am to 1 pm on Sunday.

Join your fellow scouts in this world-wide scouting event that started in 1957. Scouts and Girl scouts are encouraged to drop by and participate. Even if you are not a scout and are just interested in amateur radio or in scouting, please drop by and join us in this historic event!

Bill Ragsdale, K6KN, will give a special presentation on Scouting and Ham Radio on Saturday at 10 am and again at 2 pm. Bill is District Chairman of the Yolo District of the Golden Empire Council of the Boy Scouts of America. Don't miss this!

Any scout in uniform will be admitted free to the weekend events, (not including the opening breakfast, banquet or antenna forum). Note that every astronaut who walked on the moon has been an Eagle scout and many of them are amateur radio operators. Join the club! See you in October.
